Murgado adds Honda and Volkswagen locations from Fletcher Jones in Downtown Chicago
CHICAGO (Dec. 4, 2017) –Brickell Motors CEO Mario Murgado today announced the acquisition of Honda and Volkswagen dealerships from Fletcher Jones Automotive Group. The renamed Honda of Downtown Chicago and Volkswagen of Downtown Chicago represent a significant expansion for Brickell Motors, headquartered in South Florida. Brickell Motors boasts nine dealership locations including Audi Stuart, Brickell Buick & GMC, Brickell Honda, Brickell Luxury Motors, Brickell Mazda, Infiniti Stuart, Ocean Cadillac and now Honda of Downtown Chicago and Volkswagen of Downtown Chicago. The sale closed today.
The dealerships, founded in 2002 and located at 1111 N Clark Street, are easily accessible from anywhere in Chicago via public transportation and major expressways. Murgado sees tremendous opportunity in reaching the area’s more than 200 neighborhoods, and he believes his company’s experience working in downtown Miami offers an excellent blueprint. For example, when Brickell Motors purchased its Miami Honda dealership in 2001, it was selling less than 200 cars per year. Today, Brickell Honda delivers more than 3,500 vehicles each year.
The acquisition also represents a homecoming for Murgado, who lived in Chicago and not far from the dealerships, in the 1960s.
“I spent several of my formative years living in Chicago and have many fond memories of the area,” said Murgado. “We are looking forward to bringing our car-buying and service experience to the Chicago area and see it as an opportunity to do something very special. We want to become part of the fabric of the community that opened its arms to me more than 50 years ago.”
Honda of Downtown Chicago and Volkswagen of Downtown Chicago are now open to the public and have already sold and serviced its first vehicles under the new brand. Minimal staffing changes were announced.
