SANTA MONICA, Calif. — Edmunds’ InsideLine.com, the ultimate online destination for automotive enthusiasts, drew the second-most weekly page views in its seven-year history last week, thanks to its coverage of the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The show propelled Inside Line to almost 8.7 million page views last week, placing the week behind December 11-17, 2011, when the site’s list of the 100 Worst Cars of All Time powered page views to over 9.8 million.
“Our staff at Inside Line gets fired up to cover every major auto show around the world, but there’s something particularly exciting about Detroit,” said Edmunds.com Editor in Chief Scott Oldham. “It’s really fun to see that our audience shares the same passion for the show, and that they choose to turn to us to get the most comprehensive coverage on the Internet.”

Meanwhile, on Edmunds.com, the premier online resource for automotive information, the Detroit Auto Show’s big debuts generated mixed results in terms of shopper consideration:
- All-new products making their debuts in Detroit naturally enjoyed the biggest week-over-week increases in consideration on Edmunds.com. The Dodge Dart (+349%), Cadillac ATS (+149%) and Acura ILX (+119%) had the biggest gains. The Buick Encore (+97%) and Toyota Prius C (+54%) also saw significant spikes.
- The 2013 Ford Fusion (+49%) led the way in week-over-week consideration increases among the redesigned and refreshed vehicles debuting in Detroit. The Toyota Prius V (+32%), Lincoln MKZ(+27%) and Acura RDX (+16%) followed.
- Not all the debuts at last week’s auto show moved the consideration needle in the right direction. Consideration for the new Porsche 911 fell six percent week over week, while consideration for the BMW 3 Series fell three percent.
Edmunds.com defines “consideration” as the number of site visitors who view content (pricing, reviews, specifications, photos, etc.) about a specific new vehicle, expressed as a percentage of traffic for similar content about all new vehicles within the same market segment. Consideration is a valuable metric for measuring an automaker’s marketing effectiveness. The 2012 Detroit Auto Show analysis compared consideration levels for the week ending 1/15/12 with the week ending 1/8/12.
