Incentive Spending Down 9% in January

According to the NADA Official Used Car Guide Update for February 2012, overall incentive spending for the month decreased by -9% on a month-over-month basis to reach an industry average of $2,435 per unit.

Highlights from February 2012 NADA Guidelines include:

• New vehicle sales in January grew by 11.5% relative to last year and the month’s SAAR of 14.1M was the best non-CFC result seen in almost four years.

• January’s month-end new vehicle days’ supply increased by 16 days to 67.

• Overall incentive spending for the month decreased by -9% on a month-over-month basis to reach an industry average of $2,435 per unit.

• AuctionNet wholesale prices increased by 1% on a month-over-month basis in January (mileage-and-mix adjusted).

• February’s edition of the Official Used Car Guide saw average trade-in values for the majority of NADA segments equal to or greater than January’s figures.

• This edition contains Class 8 and medium duty year-over-year comparisons and a 2012 forecast.

• Retail prices for sleeper tractors were up 17.3% in 2011 vs. 2010 on mileage 10% higher.

• Wholesale prices for sleeper tractors were up 36% on mileage 4.3% higher.

• Price gap between aerodynamic and owner-operator trucks is increasing.

• Construction trucks up 7.4% on mileage 19% higher.

• Class 3-4 Cabovers up slightly, but Class 6 Conventionals flat.

• Price ceilings likely in place in retail and wholesale markets.
